SID's last studio album release was 2017's NOMAD .
Unlike SID's past studio albums , Shonin Yokkyu does not include any singles . Only the song that shares the same title as the album had a video made .
All 10 songs in Shonin Yokkyu were written by vocalist Mao .
Songs that were composed by the other 3 SID members are as so :
Guitarist Shinji :
1) Shonin Yokkyu
3) Te
5) see through
7) Awai Ashiato
Bassist Aki :
2) Blood Vessel
8) Trick
9) Namida Ame
10) Kimiiro no Asa
Drummer Yuya :
4) Deai = Kiseki
6) Positive no Mahou
Blood Vessel was chosen to promote the smartphone game turned anime Ikemen Vampire while Kimiiro no Asa was performed for the 1st time during March when SID 15th Anniversary GRAND FINAL at Yokohama Arena ~Sono Mirai e~ took place .
4 songs from Shonin Yokkyu were released digitally in August , prior to the physical release of Shonin Yokkyu last month :
● 14th Aug - Blood Vessel ; track 2
● 21st Aug - Shonin Yokkyu ; track 1
● 26th Aug - Kimiiro no Asa ; track 10
● 30th Aug - Deai = Kiseki ; track 4
This year's theme seems to focus on musicians releasing albums without any singles preceding them . That 1st happened for B'z , then KAT-TUN & now SID .
Musicians must have a certain level of confidence to put out albums that doesn't have any singles in them & that itself is not an easy thing to do .
That said , for SID's latest album offering Shonin Yokkyu , I was really surprised how much I unexpectedly liked the new songs in the album & it's a lot more musically diverse than what I initially thought .
Ironically in this case , I don't like the song that shares the same title as the album as it's too emo depressing for me and it doesn't do justice to the other 9 songs in Shonin Yokkyu (the album) .
Aside from that , the other new material in Shonin Yokkyu are pretty good . I love Te a lot & it's a shame SID didn't made a video for it as it would have been amazing , plot wise .
Besides Shonin Yokkyu (the song) , Trick is the other album track I'm not really a fan of as it's quite boring and it doesn't stand out against the other material in the album .
SID's previous album NOMAD was and is still a solid release & Shonin Yokkyu (the album) is a fine follow up .
If SID's next album also will follow in the same footsteps as Shonin Yokkyu then I will not mind at all , provided if the material in the record is good .
