Aoyama Thelma Feat 4Minute - WITHOUT U
CD

CD + DVD

1) Intro
2) WITHOUT U Feat 4Minute
3) Fallen Angel
4) my sweetest sin
5) WITHOUT U Feat 4Minute (Instrumental)
WITHOUT U is Aoyama Thelma's 13th single & it was released a few days ago on 25th May .
Aoyama's new single comes after 2 months + since the release of her previous single Zutto. (Forever.) & this's Aoyama's 2nd time in doing a collaboration with a Korean artiste , the 1st being Fall in Love with BIG BANG !'s SOL .
After a rather cool sounding Intro , it jumps straight into the main title track of the single .
Honestly , I wasn't sure what to expect for WITHOUT U but it surprised me when I heard the song in that it's a pretty simple under-stated ballad , with rap verses thrown in by both Aoyama & 4Minute .
I don't listen to Korean acts but the vocals of 4Minute are pretty ok but their rap verses are much stronger in here .
There're 2 B-sides in the single . The 1st one is something titled Fallen Angel .
Fallen Angel is a nice upbeat R&B tune . I feel it has traces of Fall in Love except it's much more mellow & not angsty driven . Still this's some neat stuff going on .
Likewise , the same thing goes for the 2nd B-side my sweetest sin . my sweetest sin is sung by Aoyama in full English & in here , there's no weird Engrish that takes place since Aoyama is fluent in both English & Japanese .
Both B-sides are equally good which plays a nice contrast to WITHOUT U .
Aoyama Thelma is on a music roll lately & after delivering a heartfelt ballad in the form of Zutto. (Forever.) , she returns back with this pretty fine follow up with 2 rather prominent catchy B-side tunes thrown in the mix .
Her 3rd album WILL to be released on 15th June . WITHOUT U will be included as track #3 while Fallen Angel has also made the cut as track #11 in the CD tracklist .

L'Arc~en~Ciel - GOOD LUCK MY WAY
CD

CD + DVD

GOOD LUCK MY WAY is L'Arc~en~Ciel's 37th single & it will be released next month on 29th June .
L'Arc~en~Ciel's previous single release was last year's BLESS which was released on 27th Jan .
GOOD LUCK MY WAY has been selected to be used to promote the anime movie Fullmetal Alchemist : Milos no Seinaru Hoshi which will be released in Japan cinemas on 2nd July .
This single has been dubbed the celebration of the group's 20 years in the music business & I feel it's basically classic L'Arc~en~Ciel .
BLESS was a nice ballad but for GOOD LUCK MY WAY , the guitar riffs & drum beats are back in full force in this positive driven song .
Also , it helps that GOOD LUCK MY WAY is catchy & cheery sounding on 1st listen which's definitely not a bad thing but considering the long time gap between BLESS & GOOD LUCK MY WAY , it's worth the wait for sure .
metropolis -2011- (P'UNK~EN~CIEL) serves as the B-side for the single & for this , the song will not be reviewed .

KAT-TUN - WHITE
CD Regular

CD Limited

CD + DVD

WHITE is KAT-TUN's 15th single & it was released a few days ago on 18th May .
The group's new single comes about 3 months + after the release of their previous single ULTIMATE WHEELS .
WHITE was selected to be used in the latest SOFINA WHITENING LOTION ad & it has been described as a song that has a lively & refreshing melody , with women providing some backing vocals to give the song a big impact .
Now this's 1 really peppy song that I like on 1st listen ! It's easy to draw comparison with WHITE alongside with the group's previous singles that follows the same music vein , such as Yorokobi no Uta (Song Of Joy) .
Except in this case , WHITE takes on a more fresher & positive sounding approach . As a result , the final product comes across really fun & memorable .
In total , WHITE have 3 B-sides . WHITE , PERFECT & SILENCE all contain rap lyrics contributed by Tanaka Koki who goes by his pen name JOKER .
Just like WHITE , the 1st B-side PERFECT also was used in an ad for promotion . This time round , it was used to promote Aoki's Men Suits in which the ad features Kamenashi Kazuya .
I love the preview of PERFECT which can be heard in the Aoki's Men Suits ad so I wasn't surprised that I came to enjoy the full version of the song subsequently .
PERFECT is almost in the same music vein as WHITE but unlike WHITE , PERFECT takes on a slightly more pop approach .
Exclusively found in the CD regular edition pressing of the single , it's a song that's titled SILENCE .
SILENCE is unusual on 1st listen but this's 1 track that is unique & has plenty of attitude . I haven't come across any of KAT-TUN's past B-sides/tracks that have this style going on in SILENCE .
Having said that , SILENCE plays a great contrast against the peppy sounding WHITE & PERFECT . SILENCE is mysterious but full of angst all rolled into 1 combination which that was nailed downpat .
The last B-side Yuuki no Hana (Flower Of Courage) is found only in the CD limited edition pressing of WHITE .
Just like ULTIMATE WHEELS's TWO , Yuuki no Hana is a ballad but in this case , Yuuki no Hana has a beautiful haunting piano melody in place which's plain lovely .
I frankly can see Ueda Tatsuya singing Yuuki no Hana on his own because his solo works almost have this characteristic going on in his solos , especially when it's evident in Ai no Hana but there's a sense of bittersweet sadness which can be heard in Yuuki no Hana but I feel KAT-TUN nailed this aspect well .
KAT-TUN has on a music roll lately & WHITE is once again a very solid single that's enjoyable from the start til the end .
I love their previous single ULTIMATE WHEELS but for that , I thought the B-sides were much weaker than the ones found in CHANGE UR WORLD . This time round in WHITE , it's great that the guys stepped things up & also experimented very well with regards to what they had to offer for SILENCE & Yuuki no Hana .
It reminds to be seen what move they will be taking next after the release of WHITE but I welcome a new single if not a new album & if this continues to keep up , they're doing fine for a now 5 member group .

School Food Punishment - RPG's B-sides

The following songs serve as B-sides in School Food Punishment's 6th single RPG , which was released last week on 11th May :
- Slide show
- Transition period
RPG was selected to be used as the outro theme for the anime C .
The 1st B-side Slide show is basically a nice calmed down mellow tune that's studded with the group's signature indie fusion rock meets ambience sounds which plays a nice contrast on what RPG has to offer .
As for the 2nd B-side Transition period , the song kind of reminded me of after laughter , sound wise since both songs are almost in the same music route except in this case , Transition period has a bigger emphasis on the synth factor .
The last release of School Food Punishment was last April when they released their debut album amp-reflection . After close to a year & a month , the quartet returned back with this comeback single RPG .
Personally , School Food Punishment is 1 of those artistes that are extremely under-rated but music wise , their material speaks volume & also , what they has to offer is something unusual but it's more than enough to separate them from the masses .
I haven't come across any other artiste that does the same type of music like what School Food Punishment do but I hope I wouldn't need to wait real long for them to release something since RPG is real solid & enjoyable to listen to .

Kanjani∞ - My Home's B-sides
CD

CD + DVD

The following songs serve as B-sides in Kanjani∞'s 17th single My Home , which was released a few days ago on 11th May :
- Baby Moonlight
- Futari no Hana (Two Flowers) (Maruyama Ryuhei / Okura Tadayoshi) (CD Only Track)
- Hanikami Obbligato (Signs Of Embarassment Obligation) (Yokoyama You / Murakami Shingo) (CD Only Track)
My Home is currently used to promote the drama Inu o Kau to Iu Koto , starring Ryo Nishikido & the A-side is a song that talks about being grateful for the little things in everyday life .
This is the group's 2nd of 3 back to back months single releases .
On 1st listen , the 1st B-side Baby Moonlight sounds a bit to me like PUZZLE's Ichibyou KISS .
Not that it's a bad thing but considering that I like Ichibyou KISS , I'm fine with Baby Moonlight & also it plays quite a nice contrast against My Home nicely too .
The next 2 songs are only found in the CD only pressing of the single & for the 1st time , the group decided to release duo songs as B-sides tracks in a single .
Futari no Hana is sung by Maruyama Ryuhei & Okura Tadayoshi . Honestly both of them are not really the 2 best vocalists in the group but something light hearted & cheery sounding like Futari no Hana suits them well .
The last song Hanikami Obbligato is sung by Yokoyama You & Murakami Shingo .
On 1st listen , Hanikami Obbligato sounds a bit like the group's 6th single Zukkoke Otokomichi , especially in the beginning when Hanikami Obbligato starts .
Both Yokoyama & Murakami compliment each other well in Hanikami Obbligato & this's something that I also enjoy listening to .
Kanjani∞ has been on a music roll back to back month wise . After releasing T.W.L / Yellow Pansy Street last month , they returned back this month with this well rounded release My Home .
They have not release B-side songs that feature the vocals of 2 members but judging from what they have done with regards to Futari no Hana & Hanikami Obbligato , I say it's a good move for them to try something different .
Kanjani∞'s 18th single 365 Nichi Kazoku (Days Family) will be released next month on 18th June & 365 Nichi Kazoku has been selected to be used to promote the drama Umareru , starring Okura Tadayoshi .

Matsushita Yuya - Back to Love (Naturally's B-side)

Back to Love serves as the B-side track in Matsushita Yuya's 8th single which was released last week on 4th May .
Naturally was used to promote in the ad for NATURAL BEAUTY BASIC & Naturally is now Matsushita's best charting release to date , suppressing that of his 4th single Trust Me .
In Naturally , Back to Love is an original song while in the other 6 CD limited editions , it features 1 cover song in each limited pressing jacket .
All 6 cover songs will not be reviewed but the 6 songs that Matsushita covered are as followed :
1) Makihara Takayuki - Donna Toki mo
2) Seiko Matsuda - Himitsu no Hanazono
3) BOØWY - Kisetsu ga Kimi Dake wo Kaeru
4) Tokunaga Hideaki - Koware Kake no Radio
5) Oda Kazumasa - Love Story wa Totsuzen ni
6) Yoshida Minako - Yume de Aetara
To me , Back to Love is basically like an extension from where Naturally leaves . It's something that I don't mind because in general , Matsushita's B-sides material are good .
Usually I'm able to compare Back to Love with other B-side tracks but in this case , I'm not able to but it's basically like a Naturally sequel which has a nice sound consistency .
Matsushita Yuya is definitely on a music roll . Naturally is his 2nd release for 2011after Paradise but already , he doesn't seem to slow down in what he delivers best , smooth upbeat R&B tunes from his discography .
I'm not sure what's his next move but I would welcome a new album from him . If not , another single will be fine too .

Ken Hirai - Itoshiki Hibi yo (Oh Endearing Days)

1) Itoshiki Hibi yo (Oh Endearing Days)
2) Run to you
3) Itoshiki Hibi yo -less vocal-

Itoshiki Hibi yo (Oh Endearing Days) is Ken Hirai's 34th single & it was released last week on May 4th .
Ken's 1st release for 2011 , Itoshiki Hibi yo serves as the theme song for the 2nd season of the TBS drama JIN .
Described as a heartwrenching yet warm & epic ballad . Itoshiki Hibi yo perfectly fits JIN , whose plot centers around the irreplaceable ties between people .
TBS producer Ishimaru Akihiko expressed his confidence that “When an era is about to change greatly , no one but Ken can convincingly convey the imminent demise of a generation of people and their way of thinking" .
Ken continued , "the theme is 'love for an era' . I just hope the message will reach many people if not just one" .
Well whether you like it or not , there's no deny that Ken's strength when comes to his music is still his ballads & words such as heartwrenching , warm & epic that were used to describe Itoshiki Hibi yo certainly hit the nail on the head with this one .
Unlike his previous single Aishiteru (I Love You) , Itoshiki Hibi yo is a lot more dramatic & you can definitely feel the climax going on in the song , be it whether you watch JIN or not & I think it's great to know that there's no one else but Ken that does best when comes to such soulful emotional ballads .
The B-side Run to you was used in the ads for NEXCO 中日本 & for this , Run to you takes on a more upbeat sounding route .
Run to you is a lot more mid tempo & slower . Also , what I like about the B-side no. is that it has some nice finger snapping beats & it's pretty catchy as well .
Ken Hirai celebrated his 15th anniversary in the business last year & now he's back with his latest release for this year , the soulful inspiring ballad of a no. that's of Itoshiki Hibi yo .
He has been in the business for a very long time but still , he's 1 of the rare artistes that continues to strive to do his best in anyway he can possible when comes to his craft & Itoshiki Hibi yo is proof of that .
Ken's 8th album JAPANESE SINGER will be released next month on 8th June & Itoshiki Hibi yo will be included as track #2 in the tracklist .

ON/OFF - Hajimaru no Wa , Sayonara (Beginning Of Goodbye)
CD

CD + DVD

1) Hajimaru no Wa , Sayonara (Beginning Of Goodbye)
2) Kimi ga Inakerya (If You're Not Here)
3) Hajimaru no Wa , Sayonara (TV Size Ver.) (CD Only Track)
4) Hajimaru no Wa , Sayonara (Instrumental)
5) Kimi ga Inakerya (Instrumental)

Hajimaru no Wa , Sayonara (Beginning Of Goodbye) is ON/OFF's 6th single & it was released last week on 27th April .
The duo's brand new single serves as the opening theme no. for the anime Beezlebub .
Honestly , I was very surprised when I 1st heard Hajimaru no Wa , Sayonara because this's probably the brothers's 1st single that sounded unusually happy & cheery , as compared to their past works which were somewhat angsty driven if not moody .
It's not a bad thing for sure because in general I like what ON/OFF has released in their discography . Hajimaru no Wa , Sayonara took me quite a while to get used to but I wouldn't lie this's 1 song that's really catchy & it's 1 of those songs that can sends off positive happy feel good vibes .
The B-side Kimi ga Inakerya (If You're Not Here) is also another pretty impressive song & sticks to what ON/OFF does best , catchy pop tunes .
Unlike their previous single Butterfly , I did not like CONNECTION but for Kimi ga Inakerya , it's quite unusual sounding but it still sticks to the same pop route the brothers are known for & it pays a good contrast against Hajimaru no Wa , Sayonara too .
ON/OFF is 1 of the few artistes that people might or might not know about them but if you fall in the 1st category , there's just something about their music which I feel it's really good .
It's basically feel good comfort pop music at best & they once again demonstrate this analogy very well in their latest single release Hajimaru no Wa , Sayonara . It was quite a risk for them to take as it's so different from their usual works but I feel it paid off well .
I really hope they will release a new album soon but another new single will be fine for me . For now , I will plug onto Hajimaru no Wa , Sayonara on repeat mode for the time being .

Kobukuro - Silhouette (Ano Taiyou ga , Kono Sekai wo Terashitsuzukeru Yoni.'s B-side)

Silhouette serves as the B-side for Kobukuro's 21st single Ano Taiyou ga , Kono Sekai wo Terashitsuzukeru You ni. (The Sun , To Keep The Light Of This World) which was last week released on 27th April .
The inspirational ballad Ano Taiyou ga , Kono Sekai wo Terashitsuzukeru You ni. serves as the theme song for the mountain climbing adventure film Take - Gaku - which stars Shun Oguri & Nagasawa Masami & it said to provide a musical ray of hope .
Both songs in the single are equally long , clocking in at almost 6 mins each + but the good news's that the quality of Kobukuro's material doesn't suffer in the process .
In Ano Taiyou ga , Kono Sekai wo Terashitsuzukeru You ni. , Kuroda tends to lead the song a lot more than Kobuchi . In Silhouette , the reverse happens .
On 1st listen , Silhouette sounds like a cross mix of their previous single releases such as Blue Bird & Niji (Rainbow) . It's not a bad thing for sure because I really like both songs that I singled out .
Then again , after being in the business for more than 10 years , Kobukuro are more or less seasoned veterans which's why frankly , most of their works are real solid & very memorable to listen & Ano Taiyou ga , Kono Sekai wo Terashitsuzukeru You ni. is no exception .

13) Arigatou (Thank You)
Destination is GIRL NEXT DOOR's 3rd album & it was released a few days ago on 27th April .
The original release date for the trio's latest album offering was supposed to be 16th March .
4 singles & 6 new album tracks are included in Destination . All lyrics are cowritten by vocalist Chisa & Kenn Kato while all music are composed by keyboardist Daisuke Suzuki .
After a 1:23 mins introduction titled 3rd contact , the album dives straight into the group's 8th single Freedom .
Freedom was used as the theme song for the ANB drama Jotei Kaoruko .
Up to now , I still consider Freedom as 1 if not the best single the trio has released since their debut single Guuzen no Kakuritsu (Accidental Probability) .
Even though it has been close to a year since Freedom was released , this's still 1 song that I'm not bored of hearing as this's 1 of the many future singles of theirs that began to take on a more mature & prominent sound attached in each no. .
Yume no Katana (Beyond Dream) is the 1st album track & just like Freedom , it's another mean gritty angsty song .
Interestingly enough , in Yume no Katana , Chisa's vocals are somewhat different & she sang the song in an unique manner which I thought it's pretty cool .
I already loved what the preview for Yume no Katana had to offer so it didn't surprise me that the full version of the song was very enjoyable & memorable .
Kaze no (Wind) Capsule is the 2nd A-side in the trio's 9th single Ready to be a lady .
Ready to be a lady contains 3 A-side songs but the last track Shiawase no Hakari (Scale Of Happiness) is excluded from the CD tracklist of the album .
However the video for Shiawase no Hakari is included in the DVD's tracklist in the CD + DVD A pressing of Destination .
Kaze no Capsule is a fun song to sing along to . It doesn't have as much spark as Ready to be a lady but still , this's something nice to listen to despite being quite a typical GIRL NEXT DOOR standard fare no. .
The next 3 songs are album tracks , the 1st one titled Aitai Yoru (I Want To See At Night) .
Aitai Yoru is a light hearted cheery no. but what makes the song interesting is the melody which has quite a bite attached to it .
I wasn't expecting to hear layers of synth thrown in for good measures in Aitai Yoru but still this's something I don't mind to listen to again .
Winter breeze is track #6 . The group's 1st 2 albums have some album tracks that have the word Winter titled in their songs such as Winter Game , WINTER MIRAGE , Winter Garden , Winter Crystal & then now finally Winter breeze in Destination .
This time round , Winter breeze is basically a chilled out no. . It sounds odd for a song of theirs to have a word Winter titled as so in Destination but such things are basically secondary at the end of the day .
Wasuretai no ni ... (I Forget) follows after Winter breeze & Wasuretai no ni ... is the only album track for a ballad .
On 1st listen , Wasuretai no ni ... reminded me of previous album ballads found in the group's discography but what makes Wasuretai no ni ... memorable for me is that the song kept me interested from the start til the end .
Also , what I like about Wasuretai no ni ... is that Chisa did not go over the top with her vocals in the song which's a good thing I feel .
Unmei no Shizuku (Drop Of Fate) ~Destiny's star~ is the 1st A-side of the trio's 10th Single Unmei no Shizuku ~Destiny's star~ / Hoshizora Keikaku .
Just like Shiawase no Hakari , the 2nd A-side Hoshizora Keikaku (Planning Stars) is excluded from the CD tracklist but the video's included in the DVD .
Unmei no Shizuku ~Destiny's star~ was used as the theme song for the movie Ultraman Zero The Movie : Super Deciding Fight ! The Belial Galactic Empire .
In Destination , alongside with Freedom , I consider Unmei no Shizuku ~Destiny's star~ as another strong prominent single that the trio has released in recent times .
Both Unmei no Shizuku ~Destiny's star~ & Freedom are more or less on par in terms of the strength & catchiness but both songs are still fantastic to listen to at the end of the day .
After a 1:18 interlude titled Impish music , the next song to be followed shares the same title as the trio's 9th single Ready to be a lady .
Ready to be a lady is still a song that I'm not bored with even up to now . Unlike the other singles being included in Destination , Ready to be a lady is a fun peppy song to listen to .
Also my fave part of Ready to be a lady has to be the keyboard beats & guitar riffs that took place after Chisa belts out the 2nd chorus of the song , which's something that makes Ready to be a lady stood out from the rest of the pack .
Hajimari (The Beginning) is the 2nd last album track & this frankly to me is the only slight weak link in Destination .
I was honestly expecting Hajimari to be a ballad but I was surprised to find that's not the case .
Also , Hajimari basically is a standard electro pop fare the group offers . It's neither a good or bad thing but I will not really consider Hajimari as a fave album track of mine .
Slient Scream is GIRL NEXT DOOR's 11th single . The original title was Twitter ~silent scream~ & this's the most recent single release included prior to the release of Destination .
It's unfortunate that Slient Scream is the group's worst charting release to date because I really enjoy Silent Scream a significant deal .
The angst factor is quite prominent in the song a great deal & kudos to its group's keyboardist/composer Daisuke for composing such a great melody for Silent Scream .
Arigatou (Thank You) is the final track in wrapping things up for Destination & I wasn't surprised that with a song titled Arigatou , it's a cheery sounding no. that's filled with positive vibes .
I was hoping that Arigatou might be another ballad but considering that this's slotted as the last track in Destination , I suppose the group wants to conclude things with this happy sounding song .
Being a longtime fan of GIRL NEXT DOOR (I became their fan instantly after hearing their debut single Guuzen no Kakuritsu) , I'm very pleased to say that I really enjoyed their latest album offering Destination a great deal .
Unlike their 1st 2 albums where some of the album tracks for both records were in the miss department , the quality found in the new batch of songs in Destination has a lot of volume & substance which're able to match up if not be on par/more superior than the singles .
Let alone , I feel that Destination contains some of the trio's best if not prominent memorable works to date & for that , it's something heartening to know so .
I'm not sure what's going to happen next but at this rate GIRL NEXT DOOR is going , I predict nothing but only the best material will be released from them .
BREAKERZ - Arigatou (Thank You) ~Beautiful day~ (Tsukiyo no Itazura no Mahou / CLIMBER x CLIMBER's B-side)

Arigatou (Thank You) ~Beautiful day~ serves as the B-side track in BREAKERZ's 10th single Tsukiyo no Itazura no Mahou / CLIMBER x CLIMBER which was released a few days ago on 27th April .
The original release date for Tsukiyo no Itazura no Mahou / CLIMBER x CLIMBER was supposed to be 6th April but it was postponed to 27th April due to March 11th's earthquake/tsunami disaster .
Similarly to CLIMBER x CLIMBER , Arigatou ~Beautiful day~ is written by lead singer DAIGO & the melody is composed by guitarist SHINPEI .
This time round , Arigatou ~Beautiful day~ also gets a music video & it's the group's 2nd B-side to receive 1 , the 1st being LOVE FIGHTER ~Koi no Battle~'s Winter Bell .
This's 1 B-side that I was waiting in anticipation to hear & I was very excited to know that everyone would be singing in the song together which's something they have never done before in their discography .
Considering that this's their 10th single release , I figured that BREAKERZ wanted to do something special to mark this momentum occasion & what better way than to do something meaningful like this .
On 1st listen , Arigatou ~Beautiful day~ sounds like a cross mix between their previous songs such as Shunrenka (Spring Love Song) & Feel so good . The difference's that those 2 songs were not composed by SHINPEI .
But melody wise , the 3 songs are almost in the same wavelength & I can't help but feel really emotional after hearing Arigatou ~Beautiful day~ , especially with the amount of emotions that I can feel from the guys in this song .
Frankly , it will not surprise me if Arigatou ~Beautiful day~ is going to be a concert staple no. for their future live performances as the message behind Arigatou ~Beautiful day~ is so meaningful .
BREAKERZ celebrates releasing 10 singles in their discography with this awesome release Tsukiyo no Itazura no Mahou / CLIMBER x CLIMBER .
Being a longtime fan of the trio from their single debut til now , I'm very proud that they have come this far & I'm sure they themselves couldn't believe they're able to reach this milestone in their career .
They're frankly 1 of the few artistes that I listen/support that I feel as each release of theirs , they just keeps getting better at what they do which's awesome .
I really cannot wait to see what else they have in store but I have a feeling they might release a new album soon , especially since it has been close to 2 years since their last album FIGHTERZ was released but no matter what , here's to many more awesome releases from BREAKERZ !
