UNICORN is Koda Kumi's 19th album & it was released last month on 17th April .
Koda's last studio album release was 2022's heart .
4 songs were released digitally prior to UNICORN physical album release :
- Vroom ; released digitally last Dec
- Silence ; released digitally on 14th Feb ; used to promote the movie Gold Boy
- Tooi Machi no Dokoka de... (Nakayama Miho) ; released digitally last Dec
- Let's fight for love! ; released digitally last Aug ; promoted the mobile game Ikemen Series
While these 2 digital released songs are not included in UNICORN :
- BLACK WINGS ; released digitally last July
- Dangerously ; released digitally this March
In addition , a solo version of Trust・Last -TYPE K- is included in UNICORN .
Trust・Last was a joint single collaboration released under the name Koda Kumi x Shonan no Kaze . The single collaboration was released last March & Trust・Last promoted the drama Kamen Rider Geats .
As she approaches the 25th anniversary of her debut in 2025 , Koda Kumi releases her 19th album UNICORN . The record features original songs like Vroom , Let's fight for love! & Silence , the theme song of the film Gold Boy . It also includes Koda Kumi's solo version of the Kamen Rider Geats theme song Trust・Last & covers of songs by artists who have influenced her over the years .
I unexpectedly really enjoyed Koda's previous album heart & before she released UNICORN , I already had a feeling I was not going to like it as much as her previous studio album releases .
To be fair to Koda , UNICORN is very different in terms of format as it contains both original & cover songs , something that she has not done before until now .
I know none of the cover songs that Koda released & included in UNICORN so due to this , instead of a full length album , Koda's latest offering felt like a mini album release to me .
The new album tracks TOKIO & We are FIGHTERS are not bad but I find it a pity that Koda did not include BLACK WINGS , Change my future & Dangerously in UNICORN as I felt these 3 songs were pretty good and would have made the album more appealing because 11 songs felt a bit too little for my liking .
Koda has been in the business for a very long time & I don't expect to like everything she released . I don't like all of her studio albums she has released over the years & that's nothing wrong with it .
With next year being her 25th anniversary , it reminds to be seen what will Koda do to celebrate this landmark milestone but regardless of what she plans to do , it's already an achievement for her .

Ichi no Mori Daigo Desu / Modotte Okure is Ichi no Mori Daigo's debut solo single that was released last month on 10th April .
Promo wise , Ichi no Mori Daigo Desu was used as the ending theme to promote TV Tokyo's Jikkuri Kiitarou ~Star Kinkyou (Hi) Houkoku~ for the month of April .
Despite being a double A-side single release , only a video was made for Ichi no Mori Daigo Desu but it's not included in the physical release of the single .
It's a bit odd DAIGO did not chose to release Ichi no Mori Daigo Desu / Modotte Okure under his real name as so but despite this , this's 1 of the most interesting solo releases he has come up to date aside from releasing his 1st covers album Deing .
Both Ichi no Mori Daigo Desu & Modotte Okure are Showa inspired which's very different from what DAIGO is known for . It reminds to be seen if this will be a 1 off release but for DAIGO to do something unique , that's commendable .
Promo wise , MEMORIES of the End was chosen to promote the drama ACMA:GAME Akuma Game .
MEMORIES of the End is possibly 1 if not the shortest song UVERworld released to date as it's not even 3 minutes long .
That said , MEMORIES of the End is quite a nice mid tempo ballad no. . The song reminded me a little bit of Pygmalion in terms of the melody structure where it's only towards the end of the no. that UVERworld go all out .
The version of this song that was released digitally last month is titled the Drama Version so it reminds to be seen if a longer version pertaining to MEMORIES of the End might release in future .
