Dear Diary / Fighter is Namie Amuro's 44th single & it was released on 26th Oct .
This single was released 3 months + since Namie's previous single Hero while her last double A-side single release was 2013's Big Boys Cry / Beautiful .
Both A-sides have music videos made & were selected to promote the movie Death Note Light up the NEW world that opened in Japan cinemas 2 days ago on 29th Oct .
Namie said that she was honoured to be selected to sing the songs for Death Note Light up the NEW world , noting that both Dear Diary & Fighter are 2 totally different songs but both deal with having strength .
Death Note Light up the NEW world movie producer Sato Takahiro noted that previous Death Note movies have used songs by American musicians the Red Hot Chili Peppers & Lenny Kravitz in an effort to give them more international appeal . However , since Death Note is now known worldwide this's no longer needed .
As such , Sato Takahiro wanted someone to sing the songs in Death Note Light up the NEW world that represented Japan , resulting in the selection of Namie while making note of her evolution , voice , dancing ability & sense of presence.
The 1st A-side Dear Diary is described as a ballad that is inspired by the movie's title , dealing with believing in love & soldiering on through life’s challenges . Carrying the concept of lighting up the world , Dear Diary is a grand ballad that describes the strong feeling of believing in one's own justice & beliefs .
Fighter which's the 2nd A-side was used as an insert song for Death Note Light up the NEW world . This track is described as an aggressive dance song written from the view point of the movie's heroine Amane Misa which's played by actress Toda Erika .
In addition , Fighter also received a 2nd tie in , in the form of being chosen to be used as the theme song for the Death Note NEW GENERATION drama .
2016 certainly has been a fruitful music year for Namie as the last time she released 3 singles in a year was way back in 2004 . Not that I'm complaining as this year , I feel the quality of her single songs are pretty good .
As for her latest single release , all the while I never been a fan of Namie's ballads but there's something captivating , vulnerable & emotional driven about Dear Diary while Fighter is a contrast with it being an upbeat dance song . And ironically both A-sides are under 3 1/2 minutes long (short) .
I'm not surprised Namie do not release an album this year but what I'm intrigued to know/find out is whether will any of the singles she released from last Dec's Red Carpet until Dear Diary / Fighter make the cut in her next studio album . Seeing that TSUKI & BRIGHTER DAY were excluded from _genic , it will be interesting in anticipating Namie's next music move .
